Turmeric milk, also known as "golden milk," is a warm and comforting beverage with a rich history. This warm drink combines the aromatic flavors of turmeric and milk.

Sweetened with honey, golden milk or haldi doodh is ready in 5 minutes, making it a well-loved choice for those seeking a cozy and flavorsome drink.

    tumeric milk

Also called turmeric latte or golden chai latte, this drink is catching up in the Western world and is something we Indians grew up drinking - haldi doodh.

You can drink a glass of golden milk every day throughout the year. Drink warm milk during winter, chill it, and drink during summer. It's a great alternative to smoothies.

Why you will love this recipe?

    • This golden turmeric latte is very comforting and can be made in just 5 minutes.
    • It can be made vegan-friendly by replacing milk with almond milk and honey with sugar.
    • Turmeric milk is a great alternative to hot chocolate or smoothies.

    Ingredients to make turmeric milk

    Milk: I use whole milk.

Turmeric powder: It is easily available in all Indian grocery stores and supermarkets.

Black pepper: I use crushed black pepper here.

Honey: Golden milk is sweetened with honey.

    Step-by-step instructions

Take milk in a saucepan and bring to boil.
Step 1: Add milk to a saucepan and bring to a boil.
    Add turmeric and pepper.
Step 2: Add turmeric powder and pepper to the milk. Mix well.
    Simmer 2 minutes.
Step 3: Simmer for 1-2 minutes. Turn off the heat.
    Strain the milk.
Step 4: Let it cool down slightly, then strain the milk.
    Add honey and mix well.
Step 5: Add honey and mix well.

    Variations

To make vegan golden milk, you may replace it with almond milk or any dairy-free milk. However, take care not to boil the almond milk like regular milk. Replace honey with jaggery or raw sugar.

Traditionally, turmeric root is used to make golden milk latte. However, I am using turmeric powder. If you use turmeric roots, let them steep in the milk for at least 5 minutes.

Other spices can also be added to make masala golden milk. Cinnamon, cardamom, and ground ginger go well with it. Check out this recipe to make delicious badam doodh.
