Instant Pot Jeera Rice (Cumin Rice)


Ingredients 2 cups Basmati rice 2 teaspoon cumin seeds 1 tablespoon oil 1 inch cinnamon 1 bay leaf 1 star anise 2-3 cloves 2-3 cardamom ½ teaspoon black pepper Salt to taste 2½ cups water 1 tablespoon coriander leaves Note: Ghee or butter can be used instead of oil

Set the Instant Pot in saute mode (normal) and add oil (Note: you may also use ghee or butter instead of oil)

Once it is hot, add cumin seeds and whole spices (bay leaf, black pepper, star anise, cinnamon, cardamom, and cloves). Saute for 1 minute.

Drain the water from soaked rice and add it to the pot along with salt

Add 2½ cups of water

Close the lid and pressure cook on high for 5 minutes.

Do a quick release of the pressure

Open the lid and gently fluff up the rice using a fork. Garnish with coriander leaves

Serve hot with a dal or curry of your choice
